Anonymous usage data

The app sends usage metrics so we can understand how the game is played and improve it. They are anonymous: My Startup Story has no accounts, so they are not linked to any identity or to you as a person.

What is sent: two random identifiers generated on your device (a player ID and an install ID), the platform, the iOS and app version, the language, region and time zone, the screen size, the approximate country and the name you give your startup, together with gameplay data: weeks played, cash, revenue, users, team size, valuation, hires, product launches, funding rounds and how the run ended.

What is never sent: your real name, your email, your location or GPS, your contacts, the IDFA or any other advertising identifier, or device fingerprinting. The founder name you type in the game never leaves your iPhone either. Your IP address is not stored: only a two-letter country code is derived from it and the address is discarded.

This data is not used for advertising or to follow you across other apps or websites, and it is never sold or shared with advertisers or data brokers.

You can turn it off at any time in Settings → Anonymous usage data, inside the game. Turning it off stops all sending and clears anything still pending. The “Delete all data” option also removes the identifiers: from then on the device counts as a new anonymous player.

Startup exchange

The exchange is an optional online leaderboard. You do not take part unless you ask to: you have to join it manually and choose a ticker for your company.

When you join, your company name, its logo, its ticker and its score are published in the ranking, visible to other players. You can leave whenever you want; leaving deletes that published identity and its history.

Where data is processed and how long it is kept

The anonymous metrics and the exchange are processed by Cloudflare, our hosting provider, acting as data processor.

Events and game snapshots are deleted after 180 days. Sessions are deleted after a year.

Data stored on your device

Your game, preferences and settings are stored locally on your iPhone so the game can remember your progress. That save is never sent to any server and the game can be played in full in airplane mode.

Camera and photo library

If you choose to create a custom logo, you can use the camera or select an image. Access is optional, happens only when you request it, and the image stays on your device.

Notifications

The app may schedule local reminders if you grant permission. They are created on your device and can be disabled in iOS Settings.

Third-party services and children

The app contains no advertising, no tracking networks and no third-party sign-in. The only connections are the ones described above: the anonymous metrics and, if you join, the exchange. Because we collect no personal data, we also do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Sharing and support requests

If you choose to share a game image, iOS sends it to the app or person you select. That service handles the image under its own policy. We do not receive a copy.

If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you include to respond to your request. We retain that correspondence while it is needed to resolve the request; you can request deletion by writing to the same address.

Deleting data and revoking permissions

You can delete game progress and preferences using the data deletion option in the game settings. Camera and notification permissions can also be revoked in iOS Settings.

To have the anonymous data linked to your device deleted, email us including your Player ID. You will find it inside the game, on the Company screen, right at the bottom: it is a long code with dashes. Without that ID we cannot locate your data, because it is not linked to any name, email or account.

If a future version changes how data is handled, we will update this policy before the change takes effect.
